Movie Preview: The Dutchess

For all those who sympathized with Marie Antoinette, fell in love with Mr. Darcy and felt Cate Blanchett was robbed for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, have I got the movie for you.

The Duchess, another history-hacking costume drama adapted from another best-selling book, stars Keira Knightly as the 18th-century aristocrat Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire. Since the actual Georgina was an ancestor of Lady Diana, the producers are naturally taking every measure possible to market the film in the "BEFORE DIANA, THERE WAS…” capacity, similar to how they did Tristan and Isolde (poor James Franco.) But I don’t care; I’ll see it and probably swoon because, in my head, I do live at Versailles and sip champagne to readings of Rousseau.
